    1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

    • My music video challenges conventions by its use of typical music video conventions to make it look real. It includes pans, shoulder shots, two shots, three shots, medium shots, long shots, and black and white shots. These features are used in a specific way that adheres to the genre of my music video which was contemporary R&B. My music video also being a heartbreak video, there was a big use of over shoulder shots, two and long shots. The over the shoulder shots were able to show a connection between the characters and how they felt towards each other. The use of two shots helped to display the two main actors of the music video and the intimacy they had between each other. The long shots provided the viewer a full view of what is going on in the scene and a deeper understanding of the plot. This music video represents social groups or issues by displaying the modern day teen relationship. Throughout the music video, the viewer is following the story of a teen couple who were once in love. Throughout the video it can be seen that while one person remained faithful, the other person didn’t by cheating on their partner. There is no apparent issue being displayed throughout the music video except maybe for unfaithfulness.

    1. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

    • My music video engages with audiences by using a modern song to display its story. This song connects with a wide audience and is known worldwide. This video also bonds with the audience by appealing to a specific audience of teens and young adults. It has a relatable and understandable theme. The actors show emotions that are expected when going through something of this effect such as a breakup. The compelling storyline that deeply shows the music video’s lyrics really helps to engage this specific audience. This video also includes visually appealing cinematography and acting. The aesthetically pleasing editing also draws the audience in for what is next to come as they follow the storyline. These emotions range from happiness, frustration, to even anger. This music video could be distributed as a real media text by being shown on social media platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. These platforms are typically used to advertise and show music videos such as mine and they also get a lot of traffic from teen and young adult users. On platforms such as TikTok and Facebook the music video can be displayed in short clips or a full video. Promotions or advertisements of the video can also be used mainly on these platforms. While on YouTube it is more likely to see these promotions or ads come in as short clips before watching a video. The full length of the music video is also common to be seen here as well.

    1. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

    • Throughout the making of this project, I developed skills such as directing and a bit of editing. Through the planning of the music up till the filming day, I have been an active contributor to the planning of the music video. As updates were made, I was able to adapt to the changes and edit the music video storyline. When considering a music video, scriptwriting skills come into play. At first I lacked in ideas, but as I got inspiration from those around me, ideas were able to flow in. With these ideas I was able to help shape the music video to come out as desired. As the project progressed, production skills such as location, acquiring actors, securing props, and scheduling time for shoots were needed. I was able to expand on my skills by getting help on finding a location, securing an actor, and planning the time for shoots. Managing the budget efficiently is very important. I was able to use this skill by being able to calculate the needed budget and being able to allocate them and reimburse any extra fundings. When on the location, I was able to effectively direct the actors in the way that would evoke what the specific shoot was.

    1. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

    • During this project there was a use of various technologies to bring this music video into fruition. One of these would be an iPhone which was used to film the music video. Being able to adjust the camera settings to set the mood of the scene was a big part of using this technology. Two iPhones were used in the filming of this to show different perspectives of the same shoot. iPhones were the primary use to film due to the access and easy accessibility of it on set. Both of the phones had similar camera settings and capabilities so they made an amazing pair to film and work with. For the storyboard instead of using the digital form, there was an implementation of the paper form which was uploaded online. The digital version was not used because being able to draw out ideas just came easier. To edit the music video, CapCut was used as it was also used in my previous projects, it was the most familiar software compared to iMovie which I have no experience of using. To upload the music video, I used YouTube because of how convenient and easy it was. Having previously uploaded videos to YouTube, I am familiar with the process of it so it came easy to me.
